Ask AFCA to bring a medical campaign to your community
If people where you live travel hours to see a doctor, or go without care because they cannot pay for it, you can ask us to come.
Requests are welcome from community leaders, traditional authorities, municipal councils, health district officials, schools, places of worship and community associations anywhere in Cameroon. You do not need to be an official body — but you do need to be able to help us organise on the ground.
There is no cost to the community
AFCA does not charge communities for outreach, and patients are never charged. What we ask for is local partnership: a venue, help spreading the word, and someone we can coordinate with.
Who can request an outreach
- Traditional authorities and chiefdoms
- Municipal councils and local government
- District health services and health facility staff
- Schools, colleges and their associations
- Churches, mosques and faith organisations
- Community associations, cooperatives and youth groups
- Local NGOs and development partners
How we assess a request
We cannot run a campaign everywhere at once, so we prioritise honestly. These are the things that shape our decision.
Distance to real care
How far people actually travel to reach a functioning health facility, and how difficult that journey is in practice.
Population and demand
Roughly how many people the community serves, and how many are likely to attend. This determines the size of the team we need.
Health needs
What people are most often ill with, and what is going untreated. This decides which clinicians and which medicines to bring.
Local capacity to host
Whether there is a suitable venue, and someone who can coordinate with us and mobilise residents in advance.
Existing services
What is already provided locally. We aim to fill gaps and support local health services, not duplicate or undercut them.
Access and timing
Whether the community is reachable for a team carrying equipment and medication, and at what times of year.
What each side provides
A campaign is a partnership. Here is the usual division of responsibility — though we are flexible where a community genuinely cannot manage part of it.
| AFCA provides | The community provides |
|---|---|
| Licensed doctors, nurses and pharmacists | A suitable venue with space for privacy |
| Medication, dispensed free to patients | Tables, chairs and access to water where possible |
| Diagnostic equipment and test kits | Advance mobilisation so residents know we are coming |
| Registration, triage and record-keeping | Volunteers to help with crowd management and translation |
| Health education sessions | A named coordinator we can plan with |
| Referral documentation for onward care | Introductions to local health authorities |
After you submit
What happens to your request.
We review it
Your request is read by the AFCA team and assessed against need, access and our current capacity.
We contact you
We call or write to discuss the community in more detail and clarify anything we need.
We plan a date
If we can come, we agree a date, venue and division of responsibilities with you.
We run the campaign
Our volunteer team travels to you and treats everyone who attends, free of charge.
Request a medical campaign
The more detail you give us about the community and its health needs, the faster we can assess your request.
Strengthen your request
Be specific about distance and travel time to the nearest working facility
Say what people are most often ill with
Tell us if there is an obvious venue already
Name someone who can coordinate locally
Mention any partner already willing to help
Know a community that needs this?
If you cannot host a campaign yourself but know somewhere that needs one, tell us anyway.
