This policy explains what personal information Alliance For Community Awareness collects through this website, why we collect it, who it is shared with and what rights you have over it.
Template — have this reviewed
This privacy policy is a good-faith template prepared for AFCA’s website as it is currently configured. It is not legal advice. Before relying on it, have it reviewed against Cameroonian data protection law and any donor or partner requirements that apply to AFCA, and update it if the website starts collecting information in new ways.
Who we are
This website is operated by Alliance For Community Awareness (AFCA), a registered non-profit, non-governmental organisation in Cameroon. Where this policy refers to “we”, “us” or “our”, it means AFCA.
If you have any question about this policy or about information we hold, contact us through our contact page.
What information we collect
We collect only what we need in order to respond to you and run our work.
Information you give us
- Enquiry form: your name, email address, optional phone or WhatsApp number, the subject of your enquiry and your message.
- Volunteer application: your name, email address, phone number, profession, professional registration or licence number, the regions you can travel to, your availability and any additional information you choose to provide.
- Campaign request: your name, role, email address, phone number, and details about the community you are asking us to visit.
Information collected automatically
- Standard web server logs kept by our hosting provider, which may include IP address, browser type and the pages requested.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described in our Cookies Policy.
Patient records
Clinical records created during a medical campaign are not collected through this website. They are handled separately as confidential medical information, used for treatment, referral and anonymised reporting, and are not published or shared other than as required for a patient’s care or by law.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and to correspond with you
- To assess and process volunteer applications, including verifying professional registration before a volunteer sees patients
- To assess requests for medical campaigns and plan outreach
- To keep records of our partnerships, donations and campaigns
- To keep this website secure and functioning, and to prevent spam and abuse
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only where necessary:
- Within AFCA, with the people handling your enquiry, application or request
- With service providers who operate parts of this website on our behalf, such as our hosting and email providers, and only so far as they need it
- Where the law requires it, or where there is a serious safeguarding or public health reason
Where a campaign is co-hosted with a partner organisation or health authority, we agree in advance what information is shared and why.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as it is useful for the purpose it was given, or as long as the law requires. Enquiries are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards; volunteer records are kept while you remain available to volunteer; campaign request records are kept as part of our planning history. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date
- Delete your information, where we have no continuing need or legal duty to keep it
- Stop contacting you
Contact us through the contact page and tell us what you need. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request, so that we do not disclose information to the wrong person.
How we protect it
This website is served over an encrypted connection, access to submissions is restricted to people who need it, and we apply security updates to the site. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps and we will tell affected people if something goes seriously wrong.
Third parties and links
This website loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google’s servers and Google may log your IP address as part of that request. Our pages may also link to other organisations’ websites; we are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we suggest reading their policies before giving them information.
Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this site. Children are treated at our campaigns in the presence of a parent, guardian or chaperone, and any records created are handled as confidential clinical information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our work or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
Contacting us
Questions, requests and complaints about privacy can be sent to us through the contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise the matter with the relevant authority in Cameroon.
